"This pimento cheese sandwich," my lunch mate said, still swallowing. "It's the best pimento cheese sandwich I've ever had."
The setup: We met at Stonebreaker Hotel in Fayetteville, which has expanded to breakfast and lunch offerings since I reviewed dinner there last fall.
The vibe: Unlike that dark November evening, my buddy and I were the only two in the dining room, though another table was being served on the porch.
- The fixtures are minimalist, but the place is bright and inviting.
The food: I opted for the Wagyu cheeseburger, fully dressed and with short potato wedges ($22).
- My friend's sandwich included the pimento cheese but also bacon, tomato jam and arugula on sourdough. He claimed to love it.
The verdict: The burger was a great mashup of savory along with tartness from the pickles, tomato and aioli; the wedges were fairly crispy on the outside and still fluffy on the inside.
- I'd maybe choose a different bun. The brioche texture was too much and didn't add much to the party.
