State Rep. Denise Garner (D-Fayetteville) said she will run for state Senate next year, per the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.
The big picture: Garner will vie for the Senate District 30 seat that will be vacated by Sen. Greg Leding (D-Fayetteville), who is term-limited.
State of play: The district covers all of Fayetteville and parts of Washington County.
Garner, 68, was elected as a state representative in 2018 and is serving her fourth term.
She represents House District 20, which includes northeastern parts of Fayetteville and portions of unincorporated Washington County.
State Rep. Nicole Clowney (D-Fayetteville), who represents House District 21, which includes portions of Washington County, also confirmed she will seek reelection to her seat.
Clowney, 42, is serving her third term.
What we're watching: No candidate has yet announced their intentions to fill Garner's House seat.
