Monday Munchies: An upscale Latin dinner in Fayetteville

Fayetteville's downtown square has a welcome addition — an upscale, narrow, little restaurant with a menu that takes you to Ecuador, Brazil, Venezuela, Mexico and Colombia.
🍽 The vibe: Calle Latin Cuisine has intimate dinner written all over it, especially during the wintertime, when the only option is the fairly limited indoor seating. But there is a patio, and I look forward to having cocktails and must-try arepas stuffed with short ribs ($13) with friends when it warms up.
🇪🇨 What to try: The Seco de Borrego ($25), an Ecuadorian lamb stew with rice, avocado and fried plantains had me only focused on this dish and nothing else in the world for longer than I want to admit. The lamb basically fell off the bone, and a spoonful of rice from the bottom of the bowl was worth savoring.
- 🍗 And there's no shame in playing it safe with a pollo asado ($19), a roasted chicken dish with rice, beans and avocado. The chicken slathered in the salsa verde it's served with will do the trick.
🍸 Zoom out: If you still have room, get a cocktail like the guava blossom ($13) with mezcal, hibiscus rose syrup and lime juice. Or share a mil hojas ($10), a dessert with layers of crispy pastry and cream plus fruity flavors. Next time, I'm going for the rum cake with horchata ice cream (!).
