Flu season is here

Arkansas reported high — 9 out of 13 — for the flu activity level indicator in the Arkansas Department of Health's most recent data released Wednesday.

The big picture: The flu has hospitalized 246 people in Arkansas this season. Eleven people have died of the flu, including nine who were not vaccinated against the virus.

No children have died of the flu, but nine people under 18 have been hospitalized.

Zoom out: Just over 9% of all emergency room visits in Arkansas during the week ending Jan. 11 were for flu, COVID or RSV symptoms. Of those 884 visits, 549 were for flu while 212 were for COVID and 123 were for RSV.
