Some fave reads from 2024

I managed a mere 27 books in both paper and audio during 2024.

• Reviewing the list, it was heavy on dystopian sci-fi and light on contemporary works.

A few stood out:

• Robert Caro's "Working" gives insight into his decades of research on Lyndon Johnson and the four biographies he's written so far. Nonfiction.
• The graphic novel "Watchmen" by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons was ground-breaking in its day. It's a mix of noir, everyday superhero and commentary on our fear of nuclear holocaust in the 1980s … and 2020s. Fiction.
• "Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil" is a slow burn, but John Berendt's knack for quirky details keeps the reader engaged through the end. Nonfiction.
• Pure literary art, "Demon Copperhead" by Barbara Kingsolver hooks the reader on a lovable main character during the opioid epidemic in Appalachia. Fiction.
• Jon Krakauer's "Missoula" is a searing and uncomfortable read that's not for everyone, but is an important piece of journalism. Nonfiction.
