Arkansas state employee's email mocks Franklin County residents

Backstory: Arkansas Geographic Information Systems employee Jonathan Duran sent the link to the agency's information officer Shelby Johnson along with the text: "Do you think a townhall meeting in Franklin County about the proposed state prison might go a little like this?"

• The email was sent on Oct. 31, the same day Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders announced the site selection.

What they're saying: Duran told the Democrat-Gazette by email: "The video is offensive and insensitive. Sending that video link displayed a level of poor judgment and unprofessional behavior that are very uncharacteristic of my 14 years of public service to the state of Arkansas.

• "Doing so was genuinely in conflict with the personal values I hold as a native of a rural Arkansas community, as well as those of my department, and the government of the State of Arkansas, and it does not truly reflect my views of the residents of Franklin County."

• Franklin County Judge Rickey Bowman told the newspaper he was disturbed by the email and that he'd spoken with Sanders about the issue on Monday.

What we're watching: KNWA reported that Duran had been removed from the prison project.

Meanwhile, the Board of Corrections approved the lease of the 800-acre property from the state Development Finance Authority to the state Department of Corrections on Tuesday.
