Arkansas was one of seven states with less than 60% of its adults registered to vote as of November 2022, according to the census.
Why it matters: Fewer people voting means fewer people making decisions that affect everyone in the state.
By the numbers: About 59.8% of adults in Arkansas were registered to vote in 2022, and 42.2% of adults voted in the November 2022 election, which included the governor's race.
The only states with lower voter turnouts were Texas, West Virginia, Indiana and North Carolina, putting Arkansas in the bottom five.
What we're watching: Presidential election years generally see higher voter turnouts, and early voting is in full swing in Arkansas. We'll see after Election Day on Nov. 5 how many Arkansans cast a ballot in this election.
