Women slightly outnumber men in Northwest Arkansas, but the gender gap ratio is more narrow than the national average and significantly more narrow than some metropolitan areas.
By the numbers: For every 100 men in NWA, there are 100.4 women, compared to 102 women for every 100 men nationally, according to the census.
The big picture: America's gender split is turning into a regional rivalry: men in the West, women in the East. If geographical gender differences grow, they could help drive deep rifts in American society, Axios' Noah Bresser writes.
The intrigue: Areas home to military bases or tech companies, both of which mostly employ men, skew a higher ratio of men to women. Cities with college campuses generally have more women than men as women made up 58% of the total undergraduate population in 2021.
