Monday Munchies: Waystone Pizza in Fayetteville

🍕 What I ate: A margherita pizza called The Mrs. Simpson ($23 14-inch or $28 16-inch) and the Pep in Your Step with pepperoni, pickled jalapeños and honey ($23 14-inch or $25 16-inch).

😐 The verdict: The pizza isn't bad, but I can't say I'd pick it over any similarly-priced pizza in the area. Granted, it's right by the university and maybe if I were a college student whose friends wanted to go out for pizza last-minute at 10pm, I'd happily end up here.

• It's exceptionally greasy, and the pepperoni on the Pep in Your Step in particular wasn't the quality you'd expect for the price.

🍺 Avoid: Anything carbonated including beer, which, c'mon, is not what most of us want to have to avoid at a pizza place. I tried two different beers and a soda and they were all upsettingly flat to the point that I ditched my favorite beer for a safe glass of wine.

• I can only assume something was off with the equipment. Bummer.

🥦 Yes, but: Waystone offers cauliflower crust for most of its pizzas, a rare option for those who'd rather not have the bread.
