What we're sipping: Dessert cocktails in Bentonville with … dessert

👋 The downtown Bentonville square has a new lavender storefront, Butter⋅Scotch Bakery and Bar.

Why it matters: It's just a refreshingly fun idea — a bakery downstairs and a bar upstairs.

State of play: I spent a Sunday afternoon in the speakeasy-ish bar, with purple and floral accents, eating a cupcake and drinking a cocktail overlooking the square. It's exactly what I dreamed adulthood would be.

What to expect: Sweet treats like cupcakes and brownies abound in the bakery, which also does wedding cakes and other special orders.

  • Butter⋅Scotch doesn't leave all the sweets to the bakery. The cocktail menu is confection-inspired, including Carrot Cake (dark spiced rum, spiced serum, allspice dram, carrot juice and black walnut bitters) or the bar's twist on an Old Fashioned with butterscotch syrup.

What to try: I went for a lavender cupcake ($4) on the side of the Lucky Number 7 ($10) with gin, ginger liqueur, lemon, raspberry syrup and champagne.

  • This cocktail is basically a fancy mimosa, and I am here for it. It's not overly sweet, and it's a nice, fizzy citrus drink great for sipping at this start of spring, especially with a cupcake that was topped with a rich and creamy icing.

Stop by: Butter⋅Scotch is open 7:30am to midnight, Wednesday-Sunday. Bar hours are 4pm-midnight. It is at 104 E. Central Ave. in Bentonville.
