What we're sipping: Sake made in Arkansas

Photo: Alex Golden/Axios

I just learned we have sake being made here in Arkansas.

Be smart: Sake is a Japanese rice wine. And Arkansas produces the most rice in the U.S.

What's happening: Origami Sake started up this year in Hot Springs and sells its bottles in 17 stores in NWA.

  • I tried the A Thousand Cranes variety — "ripe cantaloupe, honeydew and pear notes with a subtle unami backbone."

Reality check: I admittedly don't have much of a palette to compare this to as sake is not my drink of choice.

Yes, but: I can say I did enjoy sipping on it, and if sake is your drink of choice, you now have an Arkansas option.
