Clearview Mall being demolished for open-air makeover

Clearview Mall is in the middle of the demolition that will convert it into an open-air lifestyle center called Clearview City Center.
Why it matters: It's a $100 million project that's been in the works for years.
The big picture: There's now a large gap blocked by construction barricades between the former entrance and Target.
- Instead of an enclosed walkway, the new project will have outdoor sidewalks with fountains, plants and benches, according to renderings previously shared with Axios.
- The developers are working on a new tenant mix that includes retail, food, office space and possibly a hotel, owner Thomas Richards told WDSU.
Zoom in: The developers and tenants have been busy for years.
- Ochsner converted the former Sears into a $115 million medical complex that opened in 2023.
- Target finished a $9 million renovation that year too, followed by the opening of Drew Brees' Smalls Sliders the next year.
- The Metro at Clearview, an upscale apartment complex behind the mall, opened in 2024.
- Zea Rotisserie, Regions Bank and Ruby Slipper also have new spots on the property.
What's next: Demolition is expected to finish in November, WDSU reports, and then construction will begin.
- The property is scheduled to reopen in 2028.
