The New Orleans Saints signed a lease extension on the Caesars Superdome on Thursday, ensuring the NFL team stays on its home turf through at least 2035.
Why it matters: With the deal done, team owner Gayle Benson can begin petitioning the NFL to bring in another Super Bowl.
Zoom in: The terms of the deal include provisions for future stadium improvements, according to the team.
- Plus, there's an option for four, five-year extensions after the initial 10-year term ends, the AP reports.
What's next: A copy of the contract, which Benson signed alongside Gov. Jeff Landry and Louisiana Stadium and Exposition District chairman Rob Vosbein on the Superdome field Thursday, is on its way to NFL commissioner Roger Goodell for final approval.
- Then, Benson said Thursday, she can begin lobbying for another Super Bowl.
The intrigue: Benson also said she's more than ready to get to work on a deal for the Smoothie King Center, which is home to her NBA team, the New Orleans Pelicans.
- "I might as well ask, are you ready to start on the arena?" Benson said, turning toward Landry and Vosbein. "And while I'm asking you, I think we should also make Champions Square one of the best downtown entertainment districts. ... Let's do this on Monday."
