Freret Street gets a pool bar with Sunnies

There's a new pool bar in New Orleans thanks to Sunnies, which opens Saturday on Freret Street, according to a representative.
Why it matters: The hottest months may (hopefully) be behind us, but a new pool bar is always welcome news in this town.
Zoom in: The saltwater pool is both heated and chilled, says co-owner Barrett Cooper, and it's tucked into a Freret Street space across from Gasa Gasa.
- There's a full kitchen and bar, too, so you don't necessarily have to take a dip to enjoy the space.
- "We're first and foremost a restaurant," says Cooper, whose firm, NOLA Capital Partners, developed Sunnies with Zach Kupperman. "We want people to come and enjoy and have dinner or lunch, but everything on the menu is shareable. It's all meant to be social."
Dig in: The all-day menu is a mix of bright, tropical flavors and cheeky, vintage-inspired indulgences.
- That means Hot Cheeto-dusted deviled eggs, ice cream-stuffed chocolate chip cookie sliders, shrimp and lobster rolls and sliders topped with Spam and soy-glazed pineapple.
If you go: Pool passes are available for visitors 21 and older. They'll be $25 and include towel service and a credit toward the restaurant, Cooper says.
