With the opening of Lake Isabel Farm in Bogalusa, there's a new beach in town.
Why it matters: Anywhere that promises a leisurely way to cool off within driving distance of New Orleans is noteworthy as we hit the true depths of summer.
The big picture: Lake Isabel Farm is an ambitious new development on a 422-acre working farm with day-pass access, though owner Anthony Sedlak has his eyes on expanding the venue's options for longer stays.
- The farm is along a mile-long private lake in Bogalusa, about half an hour from Covington and 75 minutes from downtown New Orleans.

Zoom in: For now, day passes to Lake Isabel Farm include access to the beach and a 3-mile walking trail around the lake, a beach volleyball court, kayaks, fishing spots and grills, according to press release. Solar-powered cabanas with fans and ice chests are available to rent for an additional fee.
- The project has been years in the making, owner Anthony Sedlak said in the press release.
- "We want Lake Isabel Farm to be a place where people can recharge, enjoy natural beauty unlike anywhere else in the region, and connect with friends and family away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life," he said.

What we're watching: Sedlak's growth plans include adding vacation rentals, farm-to-table dinners and event space for weddings and corporate events.
- The first vacation rental is expected to open in the late fall, with the events center to follow in 2026.
If you go: Day passes start at $35 for people 13 and up, and $25 for children and seniors. Those prices are exclusive of taxes and fees. Tickets.
