Lumen and Entergy made the annual Fortune 500 list, but they are losing ground.
The big picture: The rankings, out Monday, are based on annual revenue. Louisiana has two companies on the Fortune 500 and a third on the Fortune 1000.
Lumen Technologies (No. 325) is a telecommunications company based in Monroe. It has 25,000 employees.
Entergy (No. 355) is a power utility based in New Orleans. It has 12,267 employees.
Pool Corp. (No. 634) is a distributor of swimming pool supplies, equipment and outdoor products. It's headquartered in Covington and has 6,100 employees.
Example: Lumen was ranked No. 237 in 2023. Entergy was 302.
State of play: Walmart, headquartered in Arkansas, retained its top spot for the 13th consecutive year.
Amazon was No. 2 and UnitedHealth Group bumped Apple out of the third spot.
California is home to the most Fortune 500 companies for the second year in a row with 58 — beating Texas (54) and New York (53), writes Axios' Mike Allen.
