New Orleans is a front porch town, and we have great respect for patios, courtyards and rooftops, too. But there's no greater time to enjoy any of them than right now in the height of spring.
Why it matters: This weather only lasts so long.
The big picture: There are great outdoor spaces all across New Orleans, and we encourage any and all dining al fresco that you can handle.
Yes, but: When the weather is this nice, outdoor tables can be in seriously high demand.
- The line at Bacchanal, for example, can easily stretch down the block outside.
- That's why we wanted to gather a handful of great, off-the-beaten path outdoor spaces for sittin' and sippin'.
The Little House
- Neighborhood: Algiers Point
- What we love: The staff at this petite wine bar are always eager to offer a recommendation from amongst their shelves of reasonably-priced wines. Once you make your pick and maybe order a few snacks, they'll uncork the bottle and you can head to the backyard for chatting with friends. Oh, and kids are welcome, too.
The Munch Factory
- Neighborhood: Gentilly
- What we love: The gumbo is great, but so is the view from the floor-to-ceiling windows, which overlook a golf course. You can sit on the patio, too, and enjoy the breeze as you watch players ramble by on the course.
Audubon Clubhouse

- Neighborhood: Uptown
- What we love: Dickie Brennan & Co. updated this Uptown mainstay and reopened the space last year. The wide, wraparound porch is perfect for lazy afternoon hangs.
Patula
- Neighborhood: French Quarter
- What we love: This newer gem is tucked into the courtyard behind Krewe. It's a sweet little espresso and wine bar, and offers a chilled-out respite from busy Royal Street. Pick your seat right, and you can watch the crowds roll by outside, too.
Bouligny Tavern
- Neighborhood: Lower Garden District
- What we love: Situated right on Magazine Street, you can grab a table out front and people watch as shoppers roam past the wedding dress shop across the street, or you can hide away from it all by selecting a spot in the courtyard out back.
