Severe weather forecast for New Orleans, then a nice few days

• The worst storms are possible in New Orleans metro from late morning into early evening, says NWS meteorologist Megan Williams.

Zoom out: We'll get a few days of gorgeous weather after the rain clears out overnight.

• It's expected to be sunny with highs in the low- to mid-70s through Sunday. Overnight temps may dip into the 50s on Thursday and Friday.
• It'll be less humid too, NWS says.

The intrigue: NWS forecasters are watching a strong cold front that may arrive toward the middle of next week.

• It could drop daytime temps into the 50s and overnight lows into the 40s in the city, Williams tells Axios.
• The North Shore might get its first freeze of the season.

Yes, but: That's more than a week away and the forecast can change.

• "Lately (the cold fronts) haven't been as strong as we've been expecting," she said. "We'll see what happens as it gets closer."

Meanwhile, a tropical depression is likely to form this week in the Caribbean, the National Hurricane Center says.

• It will be named Sara if it strengthens into a tropical storm. It's too early to tell if it could be a threat to the Gulf Coast.
