Louisiana's voter turnout was lower this year than in 2020

Nearly 66% of registered voters in Louisiana cast their ballot in Tuesday's presidential race, according to unofficial numbers from the Secretary of State's office.
Why it matters: The turnout was lower this year than in the 2016 and 2020 presidential elections.
The big picture: More than 2 million Louisianans voted in the presidential race, the SOS data shows.
- President-elect Trump won Louisiana with 60% of the vote. Vice President Harris earned 38%.
Zoom in: Voter turnout was lower in Orleans Parish (58.7%) than the state average. Harris was the parish winner, getting 82% of the vote.
- Jefferson Parish's unofficial turnout was 64.8%, the data shows. Trump won with 55% and Harris got 42%.
- The turnout was higher for both parishes in 2020 but the party percentages were similar, according to historical data.
Flashback: When President Biden faced Trump in 2020, 70.1% of Louisiana voters cast a ballot. Trump won Louisiana with 58% of votes.
- And in 2016 when Trump faced Hillary Clinton, 67.8% of Louisiana's eligible voters cast a ballot. Trump won with 58% of the votes.
