Many Louisianans aren't registering to vote, despite being eligible to — and even fewer are actually casting ballots.
Why it matters: Low voter turnout has been a problem in recent years for Louisiana.
The big picture: Only 64.4% of voting-age residents in Louisiana were registered to vote in the 2022 midterms, based on information from the U.S. Census Bureau.
That same election year, only 45.8% of voting-age residents cast a ballot, based on census data from the election.
In November 2023, about a third of the state's registered voters decided the next governor. Jeff Landry won outright in Louisiana's jungle primary.
By the numbers: As of Friday, Louisiana had 3,044,473 registered voters, according to the Louisiana Secretary of State.
Democrat: 1,138,760
Republican: 1,056,025

Fun fact: More women are registered to vote in Louisiana than men, as of Friday.
