Downtown New Orleans traffic is a hot mess right now, and it's about to get worse with more projects starting soon.
Why it matters: It's going to take extra time to get around.
The big picture: The city on Tuesday announced more roadway construction in the CBD, French Quarter and near Lincoln Beach in the East.
- One of the projects focuses on repairing downtown sidewalks.
Between the lines: State and city leaders are racing to finish several big infrastructure improvements before New Orleans hosts the Super Bowl in February 2025.
Here are some of the construction projects that may impact your commute.

Crescent City Connection
- DOTD will close the HOV lane overnight Wednesday while it removes barricades on the eastbound bridge related to the $21 million light project. It will reopen by 4am Thursday. (Go deeper)
- Then, DOTD is expected to do the same closures on the westbound side, with the plan to have it fully open by Sunday.

Poydras Street
- Poydras Street is being milled and repaved from Loyola Avenue to Convention Center Boulevard.
- The work will be done two blocks at a time, the city said, alternating between lakebound and riverbound sides, depending on rush hour. Expect lane closures and delays.
- The project is supposed to be finished by the end of the year.
Central Business District
- The city is resurfacing several streets, along with repairing sidewalks and installing ADA-compliant ramps.
- The work will focus on Howard Avenue and Girod, Natchez, Perdido and Carondelet streets.
- Work continues on Julia Street as well.
French Quarter
- The city is resurfacing streets, repairing sidewalks and installing ADA-compliant ramps.
- The work will focus on Chartres, Decatur, Royal and St. Ann streets.
Lincoln Beach
- The city is resurfacing Downman Road and Lincoln Beach Boulevard. It's repairing sidewalks and installing ADA-compliant ramps.
