Soon after starting our poboy of the week series, we got a reader email saying the best New Orleans poboys could be found at Williams Seafood & Poboy in Kenner.
Why it matters: Obviously, we had to try it out.
Zoom in: That email came from Taslin Alfonzo, the communications director for NOLA Public Schools.
- "I've been coming here for 15 years," Alfonzo told me when we met up there for lunch. "It's really the best." She said the restaurant was a routine after-work stop when she clocked off from a previous job working in local TV news.
- I believe it. The staff greeted Alfonzo by name, and she seemed to look at the menu just as a courtesy while I took my time choosing.
What I ordered: A half-and-half poboy with shrimp and catfish ($16), dressed, plus a side of potato salad ($5).
- It arrived quickly, with a big lemon wedge to squeeze over the sandwich.
- There was also a giant squeeze bottle filled to the brim with Louisiana Hot Sauce, which I doused over the whole thing.
The bottom line: Alfonzo's recommendation was spot on.
- Everything tasted so fresh, and I couldn't pick a favorite between the two halves of my poboy.
