Essence Fest turns 30 this year, and the annual New Orleans event is teasing a Cash Money Millionaires reunion to celebrate.

Why it matters: The supergroup helped put New Orleans rap on the national stage.

Between the lines: Essence Fest says Birdman is booked for the gig, which will "honor three decades of Cash Money Millionaires," but promotional details don't say who else might join him.

  • Lil Wayne, for example, appears in archival footage in the Essence video announcement, but he doesn't seem to be a confirmed performer.
  • He had a surprise performance last year at Essence.
  • Some of the original members are actively performing together now, like Mannie Fresh and Juvenile.

The intrigue: This is a possible reunion that Birdman has been pushing for since at least last fall, when he said he'd be willing to put up his own money to make it happen, Vibe reported.
