Second Harvest plans massive Nashville expansion amid growing food insecurity

Why it matters: The new facility will dramatically expand the organization's food distribution abilities and will offer space for other community services.

By the numbers: Second Harvest estimates that nearly half a million people in its service area are food insecure.

• The food bank distributed roughly 43 million meals last year. But, the Tennessean reports, the estimated annual need sits at nearly 91 million meals.
