Oracle will break ground on its River North corporate headquarters on Nov. 10, followed by a series of community events.
Why it matters: The Oracle corporate campus project is a vital part of the broader East Bank redevelopment. The project also promised to bring thousands of high-paying jobs to Nashville.
Driving the news: The groundbreaking will be followed by an open house on Nov. 12-13, during which time residents can explore 3D models of the new campus and learn about job opportunities.
- The open house will feature food trucks and live music.
- On Nov. 14, the company will host a community day with a Formula 1 racecar on display, activities for kids and hands-on experiences inside the Oracle showcase.
The latest: The first leg of the River North greenway, located along the river, opened in September. The greenway will eventually stretch south to Shelby Park.
- The project also calls for a pedestrian bridge over the Cumberland River connecting Oracle's campus to the Germantown neighborhood. That project will take years and is in the early phase of permitting.
State of play: The corporate campus project has been a source of consternation. Five years have passed since local leaders approved a $175 million incentive for the project, which promised 8,500 jobs.
- Earlier this year, Oracle laid off approximately 18% of its global workforce, prompting concerns about the status of the Nashville plans.
- According to a filing with the state prior to the layoffs, the company reported 901 Nashville jobs.
- The Tennessean reports the company has spent $350 million toward its River North project. In addition to the corporate headquarters, the project will also include retail and a Nobu hotel.
