The Vanderbilt women's soccer team stormed into SEC play on Thursday ranked No. 1 in the entire country.

Why it matters: The Commodores seem to be positioned to contend for a national title.

Driving the news: For the first time in program history, Vanderbilt ranked No. 1 in the most recent Top Drawer soccer poll.

The team is No. 2 in the United Soccer Coaches poll.
