Gio's Chicago Pizza is closing after a four-year run operating out of the People's Kitchen in the Nations.
Why it matters: Nashville is losing a beloved neighborhood joint that offered some of the best Chicago-style pizza in the city.
Flashback: Chef Greg Knotek opened Gio's in 2022 after a career working in fine dining kitchens in the Chicago area.
He moved to Nashville to be closer to family. It was a made-for-TV backstory, and the pizza joint earned buzz especially among deep dish pizza fans.
What he's saying: Knotek shared the sad news on social media yesterday.
Knotek chalked up the closing to "health challenges, financial constraints, and circumstances beyond our control."
"Thank you for allowing me to share my heart through pizza, fellowship, and the countless conversations we've had over the years," he said on Instagram.
