Pekka Rinne, the beloved former goalie for the Nashville Predators, was announced yesterday as a Hockey Hall of Fame inductee.
Why it matters: Rinne played 15 seasons for the Preds from 2008-21, and he is the best goalie in team history across every metric.
He was a prominent part of the team's electrifying run in the 2017 playoffs, which took the Predators into the Stanley Cup Finals.
😮 Fun fact: Rinne is one of only 17 NHL goaltenders to score a goal of their own.
State of play: The Predators honored Rinne in 2022 by retiring his No. 35.
What he's saying: "The honor represents me and all of the members of the Nashville Predators organization," Rinne said after the announcement. "It's surreal to think I will be joining my teammate Shea Weber in the Hockey Hall of Fame."
