In 2019, Ella Langley moved to Nashville to pursue country music stardom.
Seven years later, she has the top song in the nation.
State of play: Langley topped Billboard's Hot 100 this week with "Choosin' Texas." The chart ranks the biggest songs across all genres based on streams, sales and radio play.
She is the first woman ever to hit No. 1 on the Hot 100, Hot Country Songs and Country Airplay charts simultaneously.
What she's saying: "I can't thank y'all enough for what you've done with this song," Langley said in an Instagram post responding to the milestone. "It blows my mind every single day. Here's to women & country music."
Between the lines: Many of the country songs that have found Hot 100 success in the last few years have been crossover hits with pop, rock and hip hop elements. But "Choosin' Texas" is an old-school, twangy country breakup song.
Langley sings about her beau leaving her — and their life in Tennessee — to reunite with an ex from Texas.
Fun fact: Miranda Lambert is one of the cowriters on this song, so she gets some Hot 100 glory as well.
