Robert Saleh's tenacity in the face of hardship was one of the traits that helped him get the job as the Tennessee Titans' newest head coach, according to team leaders.
Catch up quick: Saleh, 46, was one of 15 candidates interviewed for the coaching gig. The team officially announced the pick Thursday.
What they're saying: "His innate ability to lead and respond to adversity is what makes him the right person to lead our football program back to one whose identity embodies sustainable success," Titans general manager Mike Borgonzi said in a statement.
"We understand the urgency to win, and believe this is a step in that direction with a coach best equipped to accomplish our goals."
Zoom in: Saleh called Nashville "the most desirable location, the most desirable team" for him.
"What I learned about the organization, the more phone calls I made, the more people I spoke to, this building, I feel like it fits me, will fit us, the best."
What's next: The new coach will discuss his strategy to turn around the Titans' losing streak during a press conference this week.
