Former NFL star Trent Dilfer is returning as football coach at Lipscomb Academy, the school announced yesterday.
Why it matters: Dilfer was incredibly successful during his first run at Lipscomb from 2019 through 2022, winning two state titles.
During his run at Lipscomb, 46 of Dilfer's players went on to play in college.
Catch up quick: The Super Bowl-winning quarterback left Lipscomb to coach the University of Alabama-Birmingham.
Dilfer received criticism for two sideline outbursts, one at Lipscomb and one at UAB.
What he's saying: "I learned," Dilfer said in a press release. "I adjusted. I've grown. And I'm better for it. Directness and passion are valued and necessary in coaching. But directness should provide clarity, not volatility. And passion must be accompanied by self-control."
