Amy Grant launches charitable fund honoring great-grandfather A.M. Burton

Zoom in: Grant and her cousin Andy Burton launched the A.M. Burton Matthew 25 Fund in partnership with the Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee.

"We will be guided by his example of service, community empowerment, and civic responsibility, with a core mission to uplift individuals and thus strengthen our city," Grant said in a Tennessee Lookout column.

• "Luckily, the causes Burton championed, and the philanthropic services Central [Church of Christ] offered to all, provide a roadmap for our efforts: from charity medical care and disaster relief to affordable housing and childcare."

Between the lines: The new fund comes in tandem with the 100-year anniversary of the first service at Central Church, which A.M. Burton founded.

• Grant and her family are involved in a legal battle over the building that once housed the church, which they frame as another effort to preserve Burton's legacy.
