Cracker Barrel vows to keep "heritage at the heart" after MAGA outrage

What they're saying: "If the last few days have shown us anything, it's how deeply people care about Cracker Barrel," the statement read. "We're truly grateful for your heartfelt voices."

Zoom in: "The things people love most about our stores aren't going anywhere: rocking chairs on the porch, a warm fire in the hearth, peg games on the table, unique treasures in our gift shop, and vintage Americana with antiques pulled straight from our warehouse in Lebanon, Tennessee," the statement continued.

• Cracker Barrel also reaffirmed its affection for "Uncle Herschel," the man who was removed from the restaurant logo. He remains on the restaurant's road signs and is referenced on the menu.
• "We also want to be sure Cracker Barrel is here for the next generation of families, just as it has been for yours. That means showing up on new platforms and in new ways, but always with our heritage at the heart."

Catch up quick: The new Cracker Barrel logo jettisons the illustration of a mostly silhouetted man in overalls leaning on the eponymous barrel, Axios previously reported.

• The logo is mostly the same, otherwise, featuring the name of the restaurant against a yellow background.
• The man in Cracker Barrel's logo is founder Dan Evins' uncle, who appears in much of the restaurant's other branding and merchandise.

The big picture: Many MAGA figures decried the logo switch as a "woke" gesture that nodded to diversity, equity and inclusion.

• "You're about to learn that wokeness really doesn't pay," Tennessee influencer Robby Starbuck said.
• Sen. Marsha Blackburn (R-Tenn.) mocked the "marketing crisis" and posted the old logo with the caption "Make Cracker Barrel Great Again!"
