Titans' Levis out for season with shoulder surgery

Titans quarterback Will Levis will miss the entire season due to shoulder surgery, the team announced Monday.

Why it matters: The injury underscores Levis' precipitous fall. At this time last year, the Titans pinned on Levis their hopes for turning around the team.

State of play: After a subpar, injury-filled season, the Titans dropped Levis down the depth chart and selected Cam Ward to be the new franchise quarterback.

Levis was set to compete with veterans Brandon Allen and Tim Boyle for backup roles in training camp, which is set to begin Wednesday.

The intrigue: There's some mystery to Levis' injury. Although he did hurt his throwing shoulder last season, he participated in offseason practices, Jim Wyatt reports for the team's website.

Levis decided to have surgery after consulting with doctors and his representatives, according to the Titans. The surgery will take place next week.
Levis is set to become a free agent after the 2026 season.
