"State of Our Streets" report aims at short-term pedestrian wins

Context: The report was submitted Tuesday to Sabrina Sussman, incoming chief programs officer of Choose How You Move; Mayor Freddie O'Connell; Metro Council; and Diana Alarcon, director of the Nashville Department of Transportation and Multimodal Infrastructure.

Zoom in: The report makes six short-term actions the group thinks can be achieved by the midpoint of O'Connell's term this fall:

🚲 Expand Nashville's bikeway network.

🚶 Build more walking paths.

⚠️ Accelerate Vision Zero construction projects to prevent deaths on dangerous roads.

🤝 Partner with a bike-share provider.

🔄 Hire a dedicated transportation coordinator to streamline work.

✅ Support a four-lane cross section for the forthcoming East Bank Boulevard rather than six lanes.

What they're saying: "This document is meant to generate optimism," Walk Bike Nashville executive director Meredith Montgomery, said in a release.
