On this day 38 years ago, the Tennessean led its front page with big news.
🚗 Zoom in: Lawmakers were racing to raise the maximum speed limit on rural stretches of the interstate to 65mph. (Several other states were doing the same around that time due to a federal law change that made it possible.)
The intrigue: Those lawmakers weren't the only ones with a need for speed.
👋 Adam here: When my parents read this newspaper edition on the morning of April 23, 1987, they had no idea I was going to be born that day.
I was due in June, but I just couldn't wait to get started. So today is my birthday!
📰 Fun fact: I grew up revering the Tennessean. My mom would read it to me at the breakfast table and I would dream of writing there one day. Somehow, I got to do it for nearly a decade.
It's still wild to me that my byline is now in other people's birthday editions.
