Apparently waiting until the last minute to buy Christmas presents is a defining trait of Axios Nashville readers.
Driving the news: We asked readers for the easy gift ideas for the procrastinators among us, and we were inundated with responses.
- Axios Nashville readers haven't responded with this much enthusiasm since Nate asked them to persuade Adam to binge "The Office."
Why it matters: If you haven't completed your holiday shopping yet, here's a list of creative ideas that will fill stockings and support Nashville businesses.
- The theme of this year's gift ideas was candles, as many readers highlighted local candlemakers and boutiques.
Burn one down: Jessica Y. suggested Flaming Feminist candles, which are made locally in the Inglewood neighborhood. The candles feature pop culture icons like Taylor Swift and Mister Rogers.
- Judy W. goes candles, too. She's also a planner. In November, Judy buys half a dozen scented soy candles from Thistle Farms for "oops, I forgot" and last-minute hostess gifts.
- Cathy G. touted My Cluck Hut, a chicken-themed East Nashville boutique specializing in eco-friendly bath products and candles.
Danielle N. says her go-to is Alkebu-Lan Images, the Jefferson Street shop that sells books, art, apparel, beauty products and jewelry. Alkebu-Lan Images describes itself as serving "the diverse intellectual, spiritual and inspirational needs of African-Americans in the Nashville area and beyond."
Hit up Donelson: Heather H. points to Mill Creek Mercantile in Donelson. The shop offers "well-curated vintage items, beautiful Christmas decorations, and fun soaps, jewelry and candles," she says.
Ann Marie O., who frequently dominates our Friday news quiz, unsurprisingly has books in mind. She suggests a gift certificate to Parnassus Books in Green Hills, and her insider tip is to get there when they open at 10am.
Gifts for ladies: Hali S. says the Golden Slipper in Germantown is perfect for last-minute gift-shopping for women.
- They have candles, home decor, Christmas decorations and cool gifts for pets.
- Rob F. vouches for the Brentwood boutique Hot Pink. Hopefully we don't spoil Christmas morning at his house, because he says he bought "a bunch of cool, fun things for my wife."
Shopping games: Richard S. didn't have a specific gift idea in mind, but he pitched a stocking-stuffer game. He suggests finding a well-stocked antique mall or collection of resale shops under one roof, setting a time limit, and browsing aggressively.
- "Quick analysis and bold decision-making (and the element of desperation) make for interesting gift choices that usually yield surprisingly positive results," Richard says.
- A good location to try out Richard's idea is the Shoppes on Fatherland in East Nashville. Caitie B. says she got something for everyone in her family, except her 3-year-old, at its boutiques.
