New stamp will celebrate Tennessee's portion of the Appalachian Trail

Tennessee's splendor will be on display in a new postage stamp coming in 2025.

What's happening: The U.S. Postal Service is rolling out a series of 15 Forever Stamps offering views of the majestic Appalachian Trail. One of those stamps showcases Tennessee's portion of the 2,190-mile hike.

Antonio Alcalá, an art director for USPS, designed the stamps based on photographs from the trail.

By the numbers: About 75 miles of the trail are actually in Tennessee, but the trail runs along the Tennessee/North Carolina border for another 220 miles, according to the Appalachian Trail Conservancy.

The intrigue: The portion of the trail along the state line includes its highest mountains, some of which tower more than 6,000 feet.
