Historic tour company offers free trolley rides for residents

How it works: The trolleys depart from Marathon Village and have 13 stops around the city, including Music Row, the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum and legislative plaza.

• The full tour takes about two hours. To get the free pass, guests need to show proof of residence such as a driver's license, lease or voter registration. 

State of play: The offer of free rides comes as Old Town Trolley is trying to raise awareness about its business.

• The company has had issues with some city regulations. Historic tours are regulated similarly to party buses, but the company believes some of the rules don't make sense.
• Old Town Trolley invited several city policymakers to take rides this week to better understand how historic tours work.
• Unlike party buses, historic tours don't allow alcohol and guests are required to sit down. Current rules ban downtown tours during early evening rush hour, but historic tours don't make frequent stops like party buses do.
