State lawmaker pitches honoring Brenda Lee

Love is still pouring in for Nashville chart-topper Brenda Lee, whose 65-year-old song "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree" is No. 1 on the Hot 100 this week.

The latest: State Rep. Jason Powell (D-Nashville) filed legislation on Wednesday that would make "Rockin'" the state's "official holiday song."

What he's saying: "Brenda Lee is a music icon and a true Tennessee treasure," Powell said in a statement.

"'Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree' has spread holiday joy throughout the world for decades and we are proud her number one song was made in Nashville."
