We asked our readers how they felt about the election, and it's safe to say they have big feelings.
Driving the news: Early voting runs through Oct. 30. Election Day is Nov. 3.
What you're saying: More than 200 readers across our four Axios Texas cities — Austin, Houston, Dallas and San Antonio — responded, with the majority identifying as Democrats. Here's how local Democrats feel:
- The prevailing sentiment was "cautiously hopeful," as Colleen P. said. Christina H. echoed that feeling: "Cautiously excited, incredibly anxious."
- "I'm excited because for the first time in my lifetime, it feels like statewide races are in play. It will be interesting to see what the turnout looks like," Brian V. said.
- "I'm excited. I would love to see Texas turn blue," Heather F. said.
- "Hopeful but prepared to be disappointed," Chris D. said.
- "Nervous and excited in equal parts. I've been here before, but I've also seen how much real organizing is happening on the ground, so I'm cautiously optimistic and ready to keep knocking doors," David L. said.
The other side: About a dozen Republican respondents from the Houston-area also had strong feelings about the election. Some were also ready for change.
- "It's time to make some changes. We've tilted too far in one direction," said one Conroe resident.
- "Angry at the scoundrels on both sides of the aisle!" Mike B. from Katy wrote.
- "I'm hoping the polls and media are as wrong about Talarico as they were about O'Rourke, twice," said Doug B. from Houston.
The bottom line: "I'm so ready for it to be over! It's been a LOT this year! The campaign signage, commercials, texts and calls — way too much," said one Richmond resident.
