Houston-area voters can put their stamp on a series of local races on the ballot.
Why it matters: Beyond the high-profile statewide races, voters will decide who leads Harris County, elect members of Congress and the state Legislature, and weigh in on local ballot measures.
Driving the news: Early voting begins Monday and runs through Oct. 30.
The big picture: Voters in Harris County, Texas' most populous county, will elect a new county judge for the first time since 2018.
- Democrat Letitia Plummer faces Republican Orlando Sanchez to replace Lina Hidalgo, who isn't seeking reelection.
- A recent University of Houston Hobby School poll found Plummer leading Sanchez 47% to 40%, with 13% undecided.
Harris County voters in Precincts 2 and 4 will also elect commissioners.
- In Precinct 2, Democratic incumbent Adrian Garcia faces Republican Richard Vega.
- In Precinct 4, Democratic incumbent Lesley Briones faces Republican Steve Radack, who served 32 years as a county commissioner in Precinct 3 before previously retiring in 2020.
The intrigue: Houston's congressional delegation could look different after Republicans redrew district boundaries in an effort to gain additional seats.
- Congressional District 9: Republican Alex Mealer faces Democrat Leticia Gutierrez in a newly redrawn district.
- Congressional District 18: Democratic incumbent Christian Menefee faces Republican Elizabeth Vences.
Also on the ballot: Houston voters will decide Proposition A, which would direct police to deprioritize enforcement of low-level marijuana possession and prohibit no-knock warrants.
Zoom out: In League City, voters will decide whether the police department should continue using Flock automated license plate reader cameras. City officials have pledged to remove the cameras if voters reject their use.
- In Cy-Fair ISD, voters will consider a $1.6 billion bond package and a property tax increase.
