The vibe: La Gelati's Dearborn location is spacious and its menu has astounding range, from handmade ashta, a Middle Eastern ice cream, to waffle sandwiches, Red Bull boba drinks, a "fettucini crepe" with long strips of pastry, and smoothies.
During Ramadan, it's open daily from 4pm-2am.
Dig in: The strawberry cup ($13) includes a heap of sliced berries, Nutella-like chocolate sauce, pistachio cream and crunchy kataifi, or shredded pastry dough. Its run is limited, per La Gelati's Instagram.
The fresh strawberries are an apt foil to the dense decadence of the cream and chocolate — but it was still so rich I couldn't finish it.
If you go: La Gelati, a family-owned franchise that started in Dearborn Heights in 2013, now has six Michigan locations plus one in Milwaukee, per its website.
As a La Gelati co-owner put it to Eater in 2020: "I mean, who else serves these kinds of flavors? You've got to come to Dearborn for this."
