Some people featured in "Pieowa" served free treats after Thursday's show, accepting donations for area charities. (Sorry, don't expect homemade desserts at other shows.) Photo: Courtesy of Kyle Munson
Jason here: I attended the sold-out showing of "Pieowa" at Varsity Cinema Thursday night.
Zoom in: It's a documentary about the dessert's surprising influence on Iowa.
The story includes interviews with actor Tom Arnold, Iowa Auditor Rob Sand, journalist Chuck Offenburger and Marcia Miller — my neighbor who once sold a partially eaten pie for $500.
Why it matters: Varsity is showing it at least once more, tomorrow at 7:15pm, which is also sold out.
Ben Godar, the cinema's executive director, told Thursday's crowd that additional viewings may be scheduled.
It'll also play for free at the Iowa State Fair a few times next month.
