Des Moines swaps No-Mow for eco-lawns

Des Moines is ditching the shaggy look of No-Mow May and embracing a cleaner, greener alternative: low-maintenance lawns.

Catch up quick: The city paused its No-Mow campaign last year after residents complained about tall grass and weeds.

• The Women's International League for Peace and Freedom in Des Moines urged people to alternatively consider embracing "Less Mow May" to help pollinators.

Driving the news: Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden experts will teach residents how to reduce lawn maintenance with plant clover, sedges, and other tidy ground covers that still support pollinators — minus the unruly chaos.
