Lake Norman, North Carolina's largest man-made lake, stretches 34 miles long with 520 miles of shoreline just north of Charlotte. It's a go-to escape for swimming, boating, shopping and lakeside dining.

For swim and sand

Lake Norman has a few beach access points, plus a privately owned quarry that doubles as a summer hangout.
Ramsey Creek Beach (Cornelius): A 46-acre waterfront beach on Lake Norman with a public swimming area.
- $5–$15 parking fee. The beach is open through Labor Day.
Lake Norman State Park (Troutman): A nearly 2,000-acre park on the northern shore with a public beach, boat rentals and mountain bike trails.
- Swim passes are $6 for adults and $4 for kids.
Jetton Park (Cornelius): The 104-acre lakefront park has picnic areas, tennis courts, walking/rollerblading trails and a tanning beach (no swim access).
- No entrance fee.
Carrigan Farms (Mooresville): While not on the lake, this natural spring quarry in Mooresville is open through Sept. 7.
- Swim passes are $25–$40. Reservations and a $5 deposit are required.
For a boat day

From tritoons and pontoons to sport and party boats, there are plenty of options to get on the water at Lake Norman.

Tiki Time Boat Rentals: A family-owned boating company, offering a tiki-themed boat with room for 19 passengers.

Black Boat Club: A black-owned boat company on Lake Norman. Reservations are typically needed a month in advance.
