Winteractive returns with giant art installations across downtown Boston

• You can see work from artists from seven countries and four continents through March 29.

State of play: Installations have been appearing throughout the week across 18 sites spanning 1.25 miles of downtown.

What you'll see:

• Six giant emoji-like eyeballs mounted on buildings. That's part of the "Big Other" series.
• A massive inflatable kraken with tentacles reaching out from a building at the corner of Washington and Bromfield streets.
• Glowing human figures hunched over empty hands at Downtown Crossing.
• Interactive see-saws titled "e/motion" between Macy's and Primark at DTX.

What they're saying: "We devised Winteractive three years ago as an opportunity to prod people out into public," Michael Nichols, Downtown Boston Alliance president, told Boston.com.

It's not to be confused with the Frostival event that's been bringing holiday programming — and, soon, a Ferris wheel — to the Rose Kennedy Greenway this winter.

A Winthrop Square installation debuted last week featuring "The Bison Observatory."

• That's Bo the Bison atop his camper van with a telescope, paying homage to Massachusetts founder John Winthrop's alleged 1639 UFO sighting.
• Other notable pieces include interactive icebergs powered by human energy, "Trumpet Flowers" musical installations and positive-affirmation street signs.

Between the lines: The "Big Other" eyes are a playful critique of surveillance capitalism.

• The "Artificial Humans" sculpture uses AI-generated concepts to comment on screen addiction. The AI-created figures are looking at their empty hands without phones.

What's next: The art will be on display through March 29.
