Mass. woman charged with threatening federal agents during immigration arrest

Prosecutors say a Malden woman threatened to kill immigration enforcement agents outside a courthouse in September.

Why it matters: The case shows the escalating tensions around immigration enforcement operations in and around Boston, and the potential criminal consequences for interfering with federal agents.

State of play: Bethany Abigail Terrill, 37, appeared Thursday in federal court in Boston, facing charges of threatening a United States official.

According to court documents, federal agents from Homeland Security Investigations, ICE and the FBI were conducting an administrative immigration arrest when Terrill pushed through agents while filming on her phone.

Zoom in: Court documents say she screamed "ICE is here" and called agents "monsters" and "Nazis."

They say Terrill refused multiple commands to back up and yelled, "We're coming for you, gonna kill you" while referencing the recent assassination of political activist Charlie Kirk.
Body-worn camera footage and Terrill's own phone video captured the encounter.

The other side: Attorneys for Terrill didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.

What's next: Terrill faces up to 10 years in prison if convicted.
