Boston's getting the duck boats ready to celebrate the Celtics' 18th NBA title.
The big picture: Officials are hoping the heat wave will have subsided in time for locals to safely celebrate on Friday.
What they're saying: "Win a championship, we throw you a parade," Mayor Michelle Wu said Tuesday.
State of play: Wu predicted the duck boat parade will draw more than 1 million people downtown Friday morning.
When it starts: The parade kicks off at 11am Friday in front of TD Garden.
- It will pass City Hall Plaza and Boston Common before ending on Boylston Street in front of the Hynes Convention Center.
Zoom in: The city will ban parking on several streets on both sides starting at midnight Friday, including:
- Causeway Street between North Washington and Merrimac streets
- Staniford Street between Causeway and Cambridge streets
- Cambridge Street between Staniford and Tremont streets
- Tremont Street between Cambridge and Boylston streets
- Boylston Street between Washington Street and Massachusetts Ave
Those streets will close to vehicular traffic at 9am Friday.
Getting there: City officials urged locals to take public transit to the parade.
- The T and Commuter Rail will run additional trains before and after the parade.
- Protip: Buy roundtrip fare tickets ahead of time.
- City officials also suggested using Blue Bikes to get to the event.
What not to do: Public drinking, cannabis, fighting or other "disruptive behavior," police commissioner Michael Cox said.
- No climbing streetlights or other poles, or you might get arrested.
- Drones and fireworks are also prohibited.
What we're watching: Whether the lingering heat will cause problems for spectators.
- Temperatures are expected to drop to the mid-80s for the first time in days.
- Boston firefighters will have extra staffers at the parade with first aid kits along the route.
Fun fact: The Celtics are in Miami partying for a few days but will return in time for Friday's parade, the Boston Globe's Gary Washburn reported.
