The doors are officially open at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Georgia's new home.

Why it matters: Building a permanent home for Georgia's contemporary artists has been one of MOCA GA's goals since its founding 26 years ago.

The 26,300-square-foot facility includes space to house the more than 1,600-work permanent collection and other archives.

Zoom in: Designed by Mack Scogin Merrill Elam Architects, the museum has five galleries, a tiered auditorium, library, programming spaces and offices.

The second floor has a rooftop space with panoramic views. The outside includes event space and a sculpture garden.

By the numbers: The $16.4 million project was funded through a capital campaign that included philanthropic contributions and $2 million from the city of Atlanta.

State of play: Work from MOCA GA's permanent collection by Nellie Mae Rowe, Lamar Dodd, Radcliffe Bailey and more than 40 other artists is on view, according to the museum.

On Oct. 23, MOCA GA will hold an opening reception for Wilay Méndez Páez's upcoming exhibition "La aleatoriedad de los símbolos/The Randomness of the Symbols."

Go: The museum is open Tues.-Sat., noon-5pm. The address is 1260 Foster Street NW, Atlanta, GA, 30318.
